I first heard about Serrapeptase six years ago and its amazing benefits for reducing inflammatory pain. Soon afterwards I was convinced of its efficacy from the results my customers were reporting back to me. Some of my customers have now been using Serrapeptase successfully for over five years.
Amazingly Serrapeptase is an enzyme that is produced by silkworms to break down dead tissue in cocoon walls, allowing the butterfly to escape. It has been used in Europe and Asia for over 30 years as a supplement for its anti-
Inflammation is an attempt by the body to heal itself. Without inflammation wounds would never heal. This normal process involves the production of biochemical’s which cascade and propagate causing an inflammatory response. For example some substances widen blood vessels so that more blood can get to the damaged tissue helping to speed up repair. Other substances increase the breakdown of damaged tissue facilitating removal and allowing the growth of new cells. However some of these mechanisms can become overactive and unhelpful leading to the problems of chronic inflammation.
Serrapeptase is thought to inhibit the release of bradykinin and other factors from inflamed or damaged tissue; bradykinin is a peptide which acts on receptors in the body increasing pain and inflammation. Thus by reducing the release of this peptide, Serrapeptase helps to reduce discomfort from pain and inflammation. Other agents that help to reduce bradykinin release include Bromelain, which is sometimes used together with Serrapeptase.
